Apple CEO Tim Cook is paired with designer Jony Ive in the number 1 spot, up from number 4 in 2011.
In the 18 years that Vanity Fair has been ranking America’s power players, Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, was the youngest person ever to top the list. But Zuckerberg relinquishes his two-year perch at the top of Vanity Fair’s annual New Establishment list this year, trading places with former spot No. 4 holders Tim Cook and Jonathan Ive. In the wake of Steve Jobs’s death, Vanity Fair says, the two longtime understudies have upheld the C.E.O.’s vision for Apple, and have even hinted that the best is yet to come for the wildly successful company.

The top five reads like a who's who of tech with Cook, Ive and Zuckerberg being joined by Amazon head Jeff Bezos, Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and Square and Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey.

'The New Establishment' isn't the only list that Tim Cook finds his company represented on: Apple is also listed as number 8 on Fortune's list of the world's fastest growing companies -- an astonishing feat for a company that will do nearly $150 billion in revenue this year. Yesterday, the big tech announcement was from Motorola. Today, Amazon joins the September marketing frenzy with their newest announcement. Their have been several rumors about what will be announced, from multiple Kindle Fire variants to even a new Amazon Kindle Smartphone. We are only a few hours away from knowing the reality of these speculations, but in the mean time, Amazon went ahead and shared a teaser video that spoils things a bit.

Yep, you see a tablet in the video above, and it comes from Amazon! I guess that wasn't really much of a surprise, but still intriguing nonetheless. What will be the specs of the new Kindle Fire? Share your ideas.

We have some breaking and incredible news for you. Apparently, the origins of the LG logo have been uncovered, and the results point to a secret founder of the company. Could it be true? Is the "man behind the curtain" at LG really an immortal digital icon from the eighties? Film at eleven!

I always thought the LG logo was inspired by / copied from Barney Bubbles' Blockhead logo.

It happened when he started mouthing off to the Mrs. and she set him straight!

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK

A dismal payrolls report, in combination with other poor data reckonings such as August manufacturing PMI, increase the likelihood of further quantitative easing by the Fed next week.
This week though, it was the turn of the European Central Bank (ECB), which announced a plan to buy European sovereign bonds in the secondary markets. Despite the positive market reaction, we should be mindful of the limitations of a liquidity tool to address solvency concerns rooted on economic structural deficiencies.
Now it is up to European governments under market pressure to abide by the rules of the game set up by the ECB. The grueling nature of fiscal austerity will not make for a game of happy players.
Canada

The Bank of Canada maintained the overnight rate at 1.0% and reiterated its forward-looking language that should economic growth continue at its current pace, the withdrawal of monetary stimulus may become warranted.
Despite a deterioration in global economic conditions, the Canadian labour market created 34,000 jobs in August and the unemployment rate held steady at 7.3%. Healthy employment gains should help contribute to economic growth of close to 2.0% over the second half of this year.
While international risks, in combination with new mortgage insurance rules may keep the Bank of Canada on hold for the rest of 2012, higher interest rates will ultimately be required to ensure that Canada's housing market and overall economy remain on a sustainable growth path.

Euro Tumbles Following ECB Press Conference

Despite the unveiling of the ECB’s plans to lower borrowing costs in the euro-zone yesterday, the euro fell against most of its main currency rivals during afternoon trading, after it was announced that growth-forecasts in the region have been reduced. Today, traders can anticipate significant market volatility when the US Non-Farm Payrolls figure is announced at 12:30 GMT. The Non-Farm figure is widely considered the most important economic indicator on the forex calendar and its impact is generally felt throughout the marketplace.

Economic News

USD – Non-Farm Payrolls Set to Impact USD

Better than expected US economic indicators boosted demand for the USD during European trading yesterday, resulting in the dollar turning bullish against several of its main currency rivals. Both the ADP Non-Farm Employment Change and ISM Non-Manufacturing PMI came in above their forecasted levels. Following the news, the USD/JPY shot up more than 65 pips to the 79.02 level. A slight downward correction later in the day brought the pair to 78.90. Against the Swiss franc, the dollar was able to trade as high as 0.9596, up close to 80 pips for the day.

Turning to today, all eyes are likely to be on the US Non-Farm Payrolls figure, set to be released at 12:30 GMT. Analysts are forecasting that the US added 121K jobs in August, which if true, would be less than in July and could result in dollar losses before markets close for the weekend. That being said, the Non-Farm figure has proven extremely difficult to predict. Any better than expected news could help the greenback extend yesterday’s upward trend.

EUR – Euro-Zone Growth Forecasts Weigh Down on EUR

The euro fell against most of its main currency rivals yesterday after the ECB President reduced forecasts for euro-zone growth and the ECB held interest rates at 0.75%. Additionally, better than expected US news boosted demand for the dollar, turning the EUR/USD bearish. The pair fell more than 90 pips to reach as low as 1.2560 before staging an upward correction to reach the 1.2605 level. Against the British pound, the euro fell more than 40 pips for the day to trade as low as 0.7905 by the afternoon session.

Today, euro traders will want to pay close attention to the US Non-Farm Payrolls figure. If the figure comes in below its forecasted level, speculations that the Fed will initiate a new round of quantitative easing in the near future may increase, which could help the euro recoup yesterday’s losses against the greenback. That being said, any better than expected news could result in the euro taking additional losses before markets close for the weekend.

Gold – Gold Briefly Comes Off 6-Month High

Gold briefly turned bearish during mid-day trading yesterday, following positive American news which boosted demand for the US dollar. A strong dollar typically leads to losses for gold, as the precious metal becomes more expensive for international buyers. Prices fell as low $1696.53 an ounce, down more than $16, before rebounding to the $1708 level......

The above video is the official launch trailer for the new mobile game "The Avengers Initiative." It's a game that will be coming very soon to Android on select devices. This one features the Hulk as the primary protagonist, and allows you to take on a huge swath of Marvel villains. The plot is kinda thin, but really, who cares? You get to be the Hulk and crush your enemies! The concept is that somehow, all the imprisoned super-villains have been released and it is up to the Hulk to take them down one by one. Supposedly, you will actually be able to wear upgradeable gear and level up the Hulk to get even more powerful.
